About the Division of Digestive Diseases

The UMMC Division of Digestive Diseases strives for compassionate excellence while caring for our patients. Our multi-disciplinary team of medical experts is ready to care for you and your family in a patient-centric approach with a personalized touch.

The division offers expertise in many areas, including liver disease and transplant hepatology, advanced interventional endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), GI motility, gastrointestinal oncology, as well as general gastrointestinal and digestive health.

All of our hepatology specialists are boarded in both gastroenterology and hepatology. Their focus includes treating viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease (MAFLD), and metabolic, inflammatory and advanced diseases of the liver and bile ducts. They work collaboratively with the University of Mississippi Medical Center transplant surgeons in treating liver lesions and managing pre-and post-transplant patients.

The Division’s advanced endoscopists provide procedural expertise related to the management of complex pancreatic disorders, ESD, ERCP, EUS, EMR of the upper and lower GI tract, endoscopic treatment of achalasia and Barrett’s esophagus, as well as Spyglass cholangioscopy. Our advanced endoscopists work closely with surgical oncology, cardiothoracic surgery and hepatobiliary surgery. Esophageal motility, endoflip, and Bravo® pH monitoring are all offered in support of advanced care of esophageal diseases.

The Division’s inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) group provides care for disorders leading to disrupted gut immunology including crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, primary immune deficiencies impacting the gut, and celiac disease. Our IBD pharmacist assists our patients in navigating their complex medication needs as well as assisting in the management parenteral nutrition.

The Department of Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center supports the surgical needs of our patients. Our patients are also supported by UMMC’s many specialties, including hematology, endocrinology, rheumatology, dermatology, allergy/immunology, and interventional radiology.

As you can see, the Division of Digestive Diseases offers comprehensive specialty care to the full spectrum of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders.

I look forward to connecting with you. Please reach out to me or my staff should you have questions.
